Oluremi Tinubu unveils okra, ewedu garden in Aso Villa, says it’s her contribution to Nigeria’s food drive
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has taken a significant step towards bolstering the nation’s food security by unveiling a private vegetable garden within the Aso Villa, Abuja .
This initiative, she believes, is a vital contribution to the broader food drive aimed at addressing food scarcity in the country.
In a video shared on the X platform by TVC television, Mrs. Tinubu showcased her garden, which boasts a variety of vegetables such as spinach, waterleaf, bitterleaf, Ewedu, lemongrass, scent leaf, and okra.
Emphasizing the impact of individual efforts, the First Lady stated that while single contributions might appear minor, they collectively hold the potential to create substantial progress in food security initiatives. She underscored the importance of collective action to drive meaningful change.

“I am trying to be a farmer because we need food in Nigeria and everybody should try to grow something,” Mrs. Tinubu remarked. “I didn’t know what I could add to the State House and thought a private vegetable garden would be beneficial for health. This little garden will provide healthy vegetables for my household and also for some of my staff.”
She further stressed the importance of leading by example, noting that her garden is a demonstration of how individuals can contribute to solving larger societal issues. “The solution to any problem lies in everyone contributing their own quota to getting that solution. As a leader, I must show example and plant my own garden,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu also highlighted the medicinal benefits of the vegetables and encouraged other women to embrace smart gardening as a means to enhance communal living and support the Federal Government’s food security campaign.
On her X account, the First Lady urged Nigerian women to participate in farming to boost food production across the nation. She promoted the #EveryHomeAGarden competition by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aimed at fostering a culture of farming and healthy eating within family units.
“Earlier today, I was at my garden to tend to it and water my plants myself. I have planted seven different vegetables. I would like to encourage all Nigerian women to join the #EveryHomeAGarden competition and get involved in farming and food production,” she wrote.
