NUJ mourns as prominent female journalist dies in Abuja

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory Council has announced the passing of Aisha Kadalla, the Council’s Treasurer.

In a statement released on Friday, the Council described her death as a significant loss.

Oseratin Osadebamwen and Ochiaka Ugwu, the Council’s Chairman and Secretary respectively, expressed their grief in a joint statement.

Kadalla, who passed away in the early hours of Friday, July 5, 2024, was remembered as a cornerstone of the union and a dedicated colleague.

Kadalla played a pivotal role in the union, inspiring many journalists through her mentorship.

The statement highlighted her influential work at Aso Radio/Television and her leadership as the former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), where she left a legacy of notable achievements.

“Hajiya Kadalla will always be in our hearts for her significant contributions to our union and her media organization,” the statement read. “Her passing has deeply saddened the journalism community.”

Kadalla was renowned for her expertise in electronic media, particularly in security reporting. Known for her warmth and friendliness, she will be deeply missed by her colleagues, admirers, and fans.

The NUJ FCT Executive Committee, where she was a key stabilizing force, called on all journalists to pray for the repose of her soul.

Kadalla passed away at Wuse District Hospital after a prolonged illness. Her burial, following Islamic rites, will take place today at Kudu Cemetery, Abuja, between 2-3 pm.
