Argentina captain Lionel Messi has matched his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for international hat-tricks after scoring three goals in a dominant 6-0 victory over Bolivia in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The 37-year-old Messi, who also provided two assists during the match, achieved his 10th international hat-trick, bringing him level with Ronaldo’s record.

Argentina, known as La Albiceleste, are in a strong position to qualify for the World Cup, sitting three points ahead of second-placed Colombia and six points above their rivals Brazil.

In contrast, on the same night, Cristiano Ronaldo endured a frustrating performance for Portugal, who played out a goalless draw against Scotland in the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo’s frustration was evident as he displayed signs of agitation after the match.

This latest achievement further fuels the ongoing rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo, with both football icons continuing to make history on the international stage.
